The European Union’s Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR) is setting a new milestone in the transition to sustainable mobility. Officially adopted in 2025, the regulation requires that along the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) core roads, there must be at least one public fast-charging station every 60 kilometers, with each site providing a minimum power output of 150 kW.
This ambitious policy is designed to eliminate range anxiety, ensure seamless cross-border EV travel, and accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles across Europe. By strengthening charging infrastructure standards, AFIR directly supports the EU’s Green Deal and long-term carbon neutrality objectives.
The introduction of AFIR marks a turning point for the European EV ecosystem. Clear targets for accessibility, availability, and charging power will reduce regional disparities between member states. For consumers, this means greater confidence in EV ownership; for businesses, it opens new opportunities in infrastructure investment, grid modernization, and clean energy integration.
As a global provider of EV charging solutions, FES Power is fully aligned with AFIR’s vision. The company’s diversified product portfolio is designed to meet a wide range of infrastructure needs, from residential to highway networks:
120–160 kW DC fast chargers — ideal for long-distance corridors and highway service areas.
150–480 kW solar-integrated ultra-fast chargers — combining renewable energy and storage to power high-demand hubs.
7–22 kW wall-mounted AC chargers & 3.5–7 kW portable chargers — enabling convenient charging at homes, offices, and commercial sites.
46–60 kW mobile charging units — providing flexible, on-demand charging for fleets, events, or emergency use.
“AFIR is more than a regulation; it is a catalyst for industry-wide transformation,” said a FES Power spokesperson. “With our comprehensive solutions, we are committed to supporting partners across Europe in building a smarter, greener, and more reliable charging network.”
By offering scalable and AFIR-compliant infrastructure, FES Power empowers operators, utilities, and governments to accelerate the EV transition and deliver a superior charging experience for drivers across Europe.
